Steven Dewitt

Steven Dewitz

 

Steven Gustave Dewitz, 66, died Saturday, October 30 at his home in Spencer, after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma, surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life service was held Saturday, November 6, 2021, 2 p.m., at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, IA. A gathering and time of fellowship was held at the Ben Tena Room at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer immediately following the service.

                  Steve was born October 11, 1955 in the town of Eau Claire, WI, to Gus and Hazel Dewitz. He graduated from North High School, West Union, IA, in 1973.  Steve was employed at Schwan’s Sales in West Union from 1973-1978.  He was later employed with Merrill Company in Marshalltown, IA, and later transferred to the Spencer Merrill Company and continued to work there for 43 years, until his death.

Joan Margaret (Whitfield, Wilks) Lavell, age 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, October 8, 2021, after a difficult struggle with COPD. She was born on March 29, 1942, to Iris (Gray) and Edward Whitfield in Morpeth, Northumberland, England. Her birth father passed away young, but she was not without a father figure. Her mother later remarried Maurice Wilks, known as Grandad Tupp, who took Joan and her sister in as his own.

Ann Janis Bartz, 69, Monona, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 26, at Good Samaritan Society, West Union, Iowa. Ann was born on July 6, 1952 in Postville, Iowa, to LaVerne and Marilyn (Olson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, Iowa. Ann graduated from Valley High School in 1970. She graduated with her Associate Degree in Nursing at North Iowa Area Community College in 1972, and began working as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Ann was united in marriage to David Bartz on February 10, 1973, also at East Clermont Lutheran Church. Three children, Amy, Sara and Joel, were born to this marriage.

John Zweibahmer

 

John Ralph Zweibahmer, born on July 28, 1968 died at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on October 22, 2021 from complications due to covid.

      Karl and Jean (Holtey) Zweibahmer’s “Little Johnny” grew up on a farm outside of Ossian and went to DeSales Catholic School through the eighth grade. He then graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1986.

Lee A. Kleppe, 61, passed away on October 15, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Lee Alan Kleppe was born June 1, 1960, in Postville, Iowa to Donald and Marlys (McNelley) Kleppe. Lee was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa. He grew up on a farm outside of West Union, Iowa and graduated from North Fayette High School in 1979.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, for Vanese L. Bantz at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Pastor Joshua Hester officiating.  Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Visitation was from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home.  On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.  A Memorial Fund has been established.  White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald D. Peters, age 62, of Copperas Cove passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, in Killeen. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116, Copperas Cove, TX with inurnment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Ron was born on January 21, 1959, in West Union, Iowa to William and Gladys (Pape) Peters. He graduated in 1977 from Valley High School in Elgin, Iowa where he played football.

After high school, Ron joined the United States Army in 1978. He served during Desert Storm and Desert Shield for a total of 15 years of service. While serving in Hawaii, he met Debbie Greaves and they married on August 25, 1979, at the Lutheran Church in Ewa Beach in Hawaii.

Joyce I. Amber, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, October 16, 2021, surrounded by her family at MercyOne Oelwein Senior Care in Oelwein. 

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2021, and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Rosary Service: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Parish Scripture Service: 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment: At Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Forrest Wayne Monroe, 90, of Guttenberg, Iowa died Friday, October 15, 2021 at his home in Guttenberg, Iowa. Forrest was born January 24, 1931 to Albert and Mari (Land) Monroe in Communia, Iowa. He attended country school and Postville High School. Forrest proudly joined and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

On August 19, 1951, Forrest was united in marriage with JoAnn Lauer at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa. Six children were born to this union. Forrest farmed in the Luana area, worked as a Mechanic for John Deere for many years and was a Property Manager for Rydell Farms for over twenty years.

Allen Gene Tupper, 94, of West Union died on October 14, 2021, at Stoney Brook Assisted Living with his family at his side. Allen was born on September 21, 1927, in Auburn to Leo and Pearl (Johnston) Tupper. He attended country school in Auburn, leaving high school to farm with his father. Allen served his country in the United States Army from 1945-1947. He was part of a traveling local baseball team when he was in his early twenties.
