James Learn

James Learn

 

James “Jim” Howard Learn, 71, of Denver, died Monday, December 20, 2021, at his residence.

 

Jim was born November 21, 1950, in Postville, Iowa, the son of Howard and Helen (Plaster)

Learn. He graduated from West Union High School in 1969. He then entered the United States

Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1971. Jim attended NEICC in Calmer in their

electrician program and then Hawkeye Community College where he studied industrial

technology. On June 19, 1976, he was united in marriage to Renae Reierson at East Clermont

Lutheran Church in rural Clermont, Iowa. To this union, three daughters were born. The family made their home in Janesville and then moved to Denver several years later; Jim built both the homes the family lived in. He was a 30 year employee at John Deere where he worked as a machine mechanic, retiring in 2005.

Frederick W. “Fred” Chapman, 75, of Quasqueton, Iowa, died Saturday morning, December 25, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at his daughter’s home in Oelwein.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2021, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with Jeff Johnson officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021, and for one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment: At a later date in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

Mass of Christian Burial was held for Lori Huinker Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Cathoilic Church, Festina, IA. Interment followed in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery, Festina, IA. Arrangements were by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home.

Dolores “Lori” Huinker, age 91, of Festina, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at her home outside of Festina, IA.

Dolores “Lori” (Kuennen) Huinker was born on October 4, 1930 the daughter of Clem and Mathilda (Croatt) Kuennen on the family farm outside of St Lucas, IA. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School. After finishing school, Lori helped work on the farm with her family.

Mildred Butikofer

Mildred Butikofer

 

     Mildred “Millie” Jean Butikofer, age 97, of Elgin, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, December 13, 2021, with her dear husband, Paul, holding her hand.  Millie was the daughter of Hans and Lydia Friederich and was born in Elgin, Iowa, on June 9, 1924, along with her twin sister, Margaret.  At age 10, Millie moved with her family to Taylor, Missouri.  She later married Paul Butikofer on May 8, 1949, in the Taylor Apostolic Christian Church.

     Millie graduated from Palmyra High School in Palmyra, Missouri, in 1942.  After graduating, she worked in a shoe factory for several years.  As a young adult, Millie made the important decision to surrender her life to Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.  She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and had an enduring faith until the end.

Jeffrey Enlow

 

Jeffrey Wayne Enlow, 51, of Elgin, Iowa died Friday, December 17, 2021 at his home in Elgin, Iowa. He was born, February 20, 1970 to Bobby Newton and Vanga (Adams) Enlow in Aurora, Illinois. Jeff graduated from Plano High School, Plano, Illinois.

Jeff worked at Rupp Captivaire, West Union, Iowa. He was a mason of the Sunbeam Lodge #428, Plano, Illinois. He enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, and spending time with his friends through the years from kindergarten and on. Jeff loved his family. He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers and the Chicago Cubs fan.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Vanga (Frank Hill) Enlow of Elgin, Iowa; sister, Deborah Couch of Earville,  Illinois; two brothers, Mike (Amy) Enlow of Potosi, Wisconsin and John (Kristy) Enlow of Yorkville, Illinois; nieces, Jennifer Ostram, Kaitlyn McCoy and Audrey Enlow and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

It is with great sadness that the family of Marcia Ann Wolf announces her passing on December 6th at the age of 83.

Marcia is survived by her children Pam Engman, Elly (Neil) Gibbs and Rick (Nancy) Engman, grandchildren Kali and Kaden Gibbs, Nate and Riley Engman and her brothers Dr. Butch (Jane) Wolf and Dr. Howard (Rose) Wolf.

Marcia was born in Decorah, Iowa on April 24, 1938. She was the daughter of Dr. Henry (“Doc”) Wolf, the sole doctor for a wide swath of rural northeastern Iowa, and his wife Rose.  Although she ultimately settled in Colorado, she was proud of being a “small town Iowa girl” and kept close ties with her hometown, including frequent trips for “homecoming” and other events, corresponding with friends and classmates, and maintaining a subscription to her beloved local newspaper - The Elgin Echo.

Brenda J. Johnson, 62, of Ossian, Iowa, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 7, 2021, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

A Celebration of Life was held at  11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Ossian Lutheran Church, 305 Jesse Street, Ossian, Iowa, 52161, with Rev. David Lenth officiating.

Relatives and friends greeted the family at the Ossian Lutheran Church for two hours before the service. Military Graveside Servicewas held by the Brockman-Hammersland American Legion Post #503 of Ossian. Final Resting Place is Greenwood Centennial Cemetery, rural Ossian, Iowa.

LaVonne Cecil Anfinson, 91, of Ossian, Iowa died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa. 

LaVonne Cecil was born on February 21, 1930 to William and Olivia (Hegland) Schwinefus in West Union, Iowa. She graduated from West Union High School.

On December 13, 1947, LaVonne was united in marriage with Kermit Anfinson at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.

LaVonne’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed spending time in her yard and working with her flowers. She belonged to a bridge club for many years. She was active over the years in many church groups and activities at Stavanger.

Jonathan Charles Brooks, 76, of Milton, FL, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at his home after a long battle with cancer. Jon was born February 6, 1945, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Joseph Armand and Ruth Hidinger Brooks. He was a member of North High School’s class of 1963.

Jon married Linda Wickham February 15, 1964, before he enlisted in the Navy. He was trained as an aviation machinist’s mate at NAS Millington and NAS Pensacola, then stationed at NAS Oceana, where he served on the USS Forrestal, which burned in 1967 off the coast of Vietnam. Jon received commendations for his actions during the crisis.

Marvin Noska

Marvin Noska

 

Marvin “Marv” William Noska, 63, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines after battling leukemia and complications of COVID-19. He was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed.

Marv was born December 6, 1958 in West Union, Iowa to Eugene and Helen (Schmitt) Noska. He graduated from North High School in 1977, working briefly in construction then later as a mechanic and service manager for Moss Service Center for 43 years.

On August 27, 1983, he married Shirl Jackson and their family was complete on November 6, 1989 when twins, Justin and Jared were born. They later divorced.

On August 17, 2007, he married Sheila (Eilers) Roach and they thoroughly enjoyed their life together. Marv loved camping, boating on the Mississippi river, July 4th kayaking trips on the Turkey river, Sunday afternoon drives, his classic cars, and spending time with his family.
