The South Winneshiek boys’ track and field team took first-place honors Friday at the North Fayette Valley Invite in West Union, using 17-point individual efforts from Rodney Schwartzhoff and Nathan Ward to contribute to the team’s 147 total points.

The West Central boys’ and girls’ golf teams fell at home to Clayton Ridge on Thursday, April 20, in their only meet last week.

The boys lost, 166-228, while the girls fell, 215-251.

There were cool and windy conditions at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette, the Blue Devils’ home course. Kenadie Betz is the first female golfer other than Kenzie Squires to score the team's lowest nine-hole round in competition. She scored a 59; her best hole was a bogey on No. 3.

The West Central boys’ track and field team competed hard in two meets last week. 

The boys didn’t have to travel very far for their first meet in Oelwein on Monday, April 17. The Blue Devils tied for sixth with Independence and Central Elkader in a meet that featured 10 teams.

After three meets and a tournament last week, the NFV boys’ golf team got a chance to catch its breath this week with only a meet Thursday and a tournament on Saturday. 

Saturday’s tournament in New Hampton was a meeting of top golf programs.

The TigerHawks’ score of 342 in the 18-hole tourney was enough to finish ahead of SW but four strokes behind Denver. Host New Hampton won easily with a score of 312.

The NFV girls’ track team placed third in both of the track meets in which they competed last week. Tuesday, April 18, the gals were in Cresco and Friday, they hosted the annual TigerHawk Invitational in West Union.

At the TigerHawk on Friday, NFV finished behind Crestwood for the second time in the week. However, the TigerHawks jumped ahead of Waukon in the final standings.

Once again NFV had to hold out some girls due to nagging injuries.

The NFV boys’ track team earned team medals at both of the meets it competed in this week.

Tuesday, April 18, the boys brought back a bronze medal from Charles City and a silver medal at Friday’s annual TigerHawk Invite.

The outdoor track season officially got underway for the Warrior boys’ and girls’ track teams last week. The South Winn boys traveled to Decorah Monday, April 10, while the girls also participated in a Decorah meet three days later on Thursday, April 13.

As one of the smallest schools to compete Monday, the Warrior boys placed fifth as a team, scoring 62 points.

South Winn was led by a trio of first-place finishes in the 4x200, 4x400, and 800 relay.

It was another cold day for golf Thursday as the Warrior boys’ and girls’ golf teams hosted Postville at Silver Springs Golf Course in Ossian.

The South Winneshiek boys shot a strong 176 as a team, besting the Pirate effort of 232.

The West Central girls’ golf team split the two meets in which they competed last week.

The Blue Devils lost on the road at Starmont, 203-251, on Monday, April 10, but defeated Central Elkader on the road, 249-265, a few days later.
